Obsidian

Obsidian

Obsidian is a stone considered as volcanic glass, which was formed as a result of quickly cooled lava. Obsidian is usually dark in appearance, though the color varies depending on the impurities it contains. Iron and other elements may give the obsidian a dark brown to black color.

The obsidian on which these handcrafts are made, comes from a place (Sierra de las Navajas) close to Teotihuacan archaeological site and exploited by this culture in the past.
